My name is Brooke and I have been designing and painting pottery for 13+ years. I formed my business in 2002 and have been creating original, functional pottery full-time ever since!
You may find the way this all evolved interesting. . . I acquired my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Converse College
in Spartanburg, S.C., majoring in ceramics and graphic design. After graduation I combined my ceramics and design training when I began working at a local paint-your-own pottery studio here in Charleston. I would create display and sample pieces for the store and soon enough people were taking notice and requesting I create designs for their homes, gifts, etc. So once the store closed its doors for good, I stepped out with a small customer base and began painting pottery out of my home.
My artistic process first entails conceptualizing and sketching designs onto hand-pressed porcelain. Then, I free handpaint ceramic under-glazes onto the pottery. Each piece is then hand-dipped into clear ceramic dipping glaze. Lastly, I glaze fire my work to a durable, food-safe and dishwasher-safe high-shine finish. All of my pieces are non-toxic and completely functional original works of art!
My expressive use of color to depict the famous row homes of Charleston defines my signature style (Hence the name, “Rainbow Row Fun! Designs”).
